"He incited violence and preached hate, just like an Islamic preacher. He built camps, just like a Nazi, and threw kids in cages in them. His shock troops hunted and brutalised hated untouchables in towns and cities — just like Eastern European war criminals. Trump was the real thing, a vicious, brutal, hateful authoritarian-fascist."

One of the hardest things to do in presenting a case about a man framed in apocalyptic terms is that the destructive power of the apocalypse gets conflated with the personal power of a demagogue.

The 45th is still the same man who stood on a golf course with Kid Rock, shitting his pants, waiting for Mueller's damning findings, knowing he was "fucked" if the system and the humans using it performed properly. He can be terrified.

He's still the man rotting from the inside out. Look at him. His body belies his stress and self-medicating practices. I mean, this whole thing was an accident, remember? His mind has been seriously tested, and his body shows it. He is socially isolated, no healthy human relationships. His hyper-sensitivity to any level of dissent means he can barely tolerate any healthy interaction, any give and take; he breaks easily, and his breaking looks like rage, while his fear furiously masquerades as masculinity. He is not well.

He's still the same man whose mind creates and whose mouth spews NONSENSE, from his clownish attempts at higher-level thought down to the basic grammatical level. Media keep using conventional frames to make "sense" of his nonsense. He is not smart.

He is just a man. An old, fat white man with a bad bronzer. A boomer. A real estate developer. A reality television game show host. The 45th is not the apocalypse.

His power is almost exclusively stolen from the conventions of government and the media. And his authority exists only within those conventions. Enablers embody convention.

Convention is the scaffolding that holds it all up. Fuck with convention, you pull the institutional supports. Those conventions, not his competency, continue to construct his authority.

We live in a time when everything is "historic." When it's all historic, none of it is. The paradigm shift has already arrived. NOW is the time to break the fuck out of convention.

What's happening in the U.S. is terrifying if you're fully awake and paying attention. Still, the terror need not extend to the man who hijacked a democracy. Without convention, he's a thief, a liar, and a con. Nothing better and nothing bigger. Cheating isn’t winning. It’s just cheating.

Thanks for your work, umair.
